Yes, absolutely, many children have busy lives with activities here, there and everywhere!

If it helps your schedule to slip away a few minutes early by all means do - a good time for this would be during tidy-up time (about 10 minutes from the end, when everyone is up and moving about. The only thing you'd miss is a short 5-minute quiz at the end to help cement learning. Please let me know so that if you have ordered a Science Explainer Learning Pack, I can give it to you as you leave.

You can use the toilets to get them changed before the session or afterwards. 

Children are welcome to eat snacks during the session. You could also bring a packed tea, (or something from a near-by fast-food outlet located just down the road in Downham Market) and eat it in the park next to the hall, or in the hall in bad weather whilst I am setting up. All I ask is that if in the hall, this is done on the outer chairs, not at the learning tables or experiment tables to avoid spillages and contamination, and that hands are washed or wiped before and after eating and drinking. 

Officially it is 6+. Children will absorb information at their own pace and level of development. The most important thing to me is that they enjoy themselves whilst building confidence in their learning. 

Children are welcome to attend from the age of 6 and there is no upper age limit, however please take into account your child's energy and concentration levels, especially after a day at school!

There are several teens who attend on a regular basis and have for several years. I like to include everyone if I can, so there are a few things I do to try to keep everyone happy:

The content of Science Tigers is broadly positioned around Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3, with academic explanations shaped around the age and developmental ability of the children in front of me on the day - so I will be encouraging more complex thinking and explanations from teens than I would from the 7 and 8 year olds attending for instance. 

Some of the more complex content will be highlighted as a "knowledge stretcher" - this lets everyone know that the next short section will be Key Stage 3 content so younger children might find it more challenging to grasp, but perfect for teens.

To keep younger ones happy, there will be some silly quirks during the session, so as long as your teenager can see the funny side and tune into their inner child without groaning too much and being too cool then everything will be fine!

Format: Each session will have a main learning activity with hands-on experiments. Additional activities could include fact finding treasure hunts, crafting and making, technology challenges, role-play and the occasional beloved word search! We always finish with a quiz at the end. There will also be some tiger-themed funny quirks to keep things light-hearted and a short break about half way through. 

Topics: Each week is slightly different but often framed around a particular topic, although there will be the occasional one-off seasonal-related session (for instance Halloween, Armistice Day, Christmas).

Home-educator sessions lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Open-for-all sessions last 1 hour 15 minutes

There will be a short Tiger Time Out approximately half way through for snacks, drinks, toilet break, although children can do all of these at any time during the session.

Science Tigers - open-to-all

£7 for a 1 hour 15 minute session - covers all resources and worksheets, safety equipment, tuition, hall hire and insurance. Science explainer learning pack not included but can be purchased separately by adding a science explainer ticket to your basket when you book a session ticket.

Please choose carefully as I cannot offer you a refund if you can't make a session as the resources will have already been prepared and allocated to your child, but you can swap your unused booking to a future date instead by contacting me with at least 48 hours notice, or sell your ticket to a friend and let me know someone different is coming in your place.

If you are attending an open-for-all session you buy the Science Explainer separately - look for a ticket listed in the same week as your Science Tigers session, it will be named SCIENCE EXPLAINER LEARNING PACK, and just add it to your basket along with your Science Tigers session ticket. Your pack will be delivered to you at your next Science Tigers Session.

You can still buy them at a later date by going to the end of the events list, (August 2027), and they will all be listed there.

Topic block

The topics are arranged roughly into half a term's worth of sessions but each session is stand alone so it wouldn't matter if you didn't book onto all in a topic block, and I recap any useful knowledge from the previous week at the beginning of the next one anyway. However, as people like to make coming to the group a regular feature of their week, places do get booked very quickly.

Open-for-all:

If you attend an open-for-all session, they are interchangeable in the sense that the content on a Monday in Upwell will be the same as the content on a Wednesday in Stow Bridge and you are welcome to book them at either venue as you wish.

If you normally attended say the Upwell session on a Monday and had already booked every week but it suited you one particular week to change to the Stow Bridge session on a Wednesday (for instance a parents evening clashed with your usual Science Tigers session and you didn't mind travelling to the Stow Bridge venue as a one-off so as not to miss out that week), you absolutely, can but you would still need to make sure you have a place booked at the alternative venue to ensure the session's resources are allocated for your child and that your original booking slot is made available for someone else. So, please contact me if you need to do this and I will do my best to accommodate you. This would be relatively complicated for me to do so please only save this for special occassions!!

It probably goes without saying but the home-educators session is only for home-educating families!

Home-educators:

Home-educators can book on to any of the sessions/venues during the week. Be aware that the open-for all session is 15 minutes shorter than the home-educator sessions, and does not include the Science Explainer Booklet in the ticket price.

The Science Explainer Booklet can be bought separately for those attending the open-for-all sessions by choosing a Science Explainer ticket listed in the same week as the session you are booking.

No, you must be in the venue for the entire session, so you may want to bring something with you to do!

Adults can choose whether to sit by their children at the learning tables if they need support, or sit back and relax on the outer chairs.

Absolutely - families come in all shapes and sizes. 

There is a small side room at both venues, which will be designated as a 'family room'. It will have toys, books, activity sheets, colouring pens and pencils to keep little ones entertained. You must stay with them at all times, they cannot be left in the side room on their own, and please put all the items back in the boxes at the end of the session. Older/teenage children not taking part can also be in the family room with you or are welcome on the outer chairs in the main hall but must be able to keep themselves entertained quietly.

Of course, but please contact me a few days in advance - the parent will need to sign the registration form giving their child permission to take part in Science Tigers experiments, a condition of our insurance. I will email them the form to print and sign and you can arrange to bring this with you or a photo of it emailed to tigerscience@outlook.com. Children cannot take part in science experiments without their parents consent and signature.

Yes, absolutely, please just make sure you keep them on the outer chairs with your other belongings such as coats and bags, and not at the learning or experiment tables to avoid spillages. Dr Holly will show you at your first session.

All places must be booked and paid for in advance as places are limited due to resources and insurance. We are not able to accept cash payments or casual walk ins.

The booking system will be loaded with new dates for each half term or term (depending on the particular topics being covered) a few weeks before hand. If you are a regular attendee you can opt in to the Science Tigers Regulars Whats App group, where you will be notified of the new dates a week before they go on public sale, to give priority to regular attendees, who would be block booking. Dr Holly will also announce the new dates in the sessions.

Absolutely! If your child enjoys Science Tigers and wants to become one of 'the regulars' and make it part of their week, I highly recommend booking as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment, as places get filled very quickly. 

To keep prices affordable and group sizes small, Science Tigers cannot offer a refund other than in extremely exceptional circumstances such as Dr. Holly herself having to cancel a sesson due to illness. However, if you can give 48 hours notice your place can be offered to somoneone on the waiting list and you will be able to switch your place to a future session, but the sooner you can tell me the better.

With less than 48 hours notice I will still try to fill your space but there are no guarantees and if I can't then I will not be able to transfer your ticket. 

No-shows will be treated as if they have attended (as their resources will have been prepared and packed). They will not be able to switch to a future session.

Yes, but only of your child - please make sure other people are not included in your photo, perhaps politely requesting they lean back for a moment whilst you take your photo.

Tiger Science Education is based in the Fens. 

Fenland Tigers was the name given to the local people who rebelled fiercely against the drainage of the Fens in the 1600s. They were passionate about protecting their way of life, just as I am passionate about promoting science and education.

Tigers are known for their courage, independence and determination, which are the qualities I hope to encourage in everyone who takes part in Science Tigers.

Watch out for the tiger-themed quirks in Science Tigers - grrrrrr!!!
